Each day, 43 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately one in 285 kids in America will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday.
The 5- year survival rate has increased from 58% to 84% since the 1970s.
Each year, hundreds of children receive treatment at the CCBF Division, and countless children around the world benefit from the research breakthroughs being made by our faculty, both in the lab and in the clinic.
It is estimated that 7% of the world population is a carrier of a severe hemoglobin disorder & 300,000-500,000 children are born with a severe hemoglobin disorder each year. Research advances in the clinical care of thalassaemia have managed to transform thalassaemia from a fatal disease of childhood that it once was into a chronic, yet well-managed disease, increasing patients’ survival rate and improving their quality of life.
There is currently no cure for hemophilia. Approximately 75% of people with hemophilia around the world receive inadequate or no treatment.
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) affects at least 3,000 children under the age of 16 each year in the United States, with most being age two to six years when diagnosed.
